Teamwork and resilience

Our Year 7 girls enjoyed an action packed three days at the High Adventure Outdoor Education Centre in Yorkshire.

They took part in a variety of activities with the focus of the trip on friendship and fun! Three of the girls blogged about the experience.

Day 1

When we arrived, we were very excited to see our dorms and to do our activities! We had a packed lunch that we had already made from home. After we ate lunch, we were told which rooms we were in, and I was really happy with the room I was given.

After we had unpacked, we went straight into our activities. The group that I was in did the spider web, and you had to lift people through the ropes without hitting them. We did the low ropes after that, and all of our fingers were so cold!! The low ropes were fun because after we had completed the course, we were given a cup of water and had to go back around the course with the water and not spill it. It was really hard!

After we finished the low ropes, we went inside to do the labyrinth. The labyrinth was where we had to go underneath the ground and then we had to try and find different letters that were written on the walls. After we had found the letters, we had to hide different types of caving items around the maze. It was a challenge for the other teams because we had hidden them so well and they struggled to find them. Our team won the whole competition, by finding all of the hidden items and then by putting them on over our clothes. It was really fun and very cleverly made!

After such a busy day, we went back to our dorms and got ready to go to dinner. The food was really nice and we had macaroni cheese. We had dinner at 5:30pm and after we had eaten, we went to our evening activities. Our activity was an amazing movie night! We all had a great time whilst watching the movie and eating our treats. After the movie ended we went to our rooms and got ready for bed.

Day 2

On day 2 we were up and ready to go early. After a good nights sleep and a tasty breakfast, we made our lunch then jumped straight into our activities - literally jumped.

Our first challenge was to get up a ladder to the abseiling platform. Some of us were a bit scared but we all powered through and before we knew it, we were all on the platform. Now it was time for the hard part - to lean back! Some of us were very scared but of course everyone encouraged each other and we all got down. Then Saf, who didn’t go up with all of us, got the courage to have a go and came down like a pro!

After that challenge there was another one. Some of us had climbed before but maybe not this high. The goal was for all of us to get to the top and come down, which we all did. Then after a delicious lunch we went to our last activity - bouldering. Bouldering was really fun, some of us even climbed on the roof  and we played lots of fun games. Some of us even tried to convince the teachers for 100 merits - still waiting for that!

After a long day it was time for our evening activity and delicious dinner. Our evening activity was Eggbert. We had to make a cocoon for our egg and we dropped it from the abseiling tower. The final thing we did that day before going to bed was to sing happy birthday to Olivia. That was a great day!

Day 3

On the last day of our trip, we had breakfast and everyone then got ready to head over to the final day of activities. We were all very upset to leave, but loved all the time we had together. We had created so many memories in such a short time.  We ended the trip by doing fun activities like moonwalk, orienteering and archery. These were so much fun, even though it was raining. The best part of all the activities was working together and having fun with friends.

After all the activities we had some lunch and got ready to leave, it was very sad to leave but everyone loved making new friends and bonding.
