ShrewsMUN 2023

Another traditional milestone of our MUN season was reached when 14 students accompanied by Mrs Keville and Dr Scherer headed to Shrewsbury School in order to take part in their annual MUN conference, ShrewsMUN.

Our team – all of them experienced MUNers represented Russia and Pakistan in a range of committees, debating topics as varied as the increasing role of AI in conflicts, child trafficking, human capital flight from developing countries, and China’s belt and road initiative.

The weekend was enjoyed by all. The quality of the debate was high, the Committee Chairs effective and authoritative, the organisation of the conference flawless, and the team spirit palpable. Saturday evening saw delegates come together once again for the Delegate’s Dance and a buffet dinner.

Most of the Sunday was devoted to debating The Crisis Scenario, which had been revealed late on Saturday and, requiring delegates immediate attention, was based on the recent sighting of (weather) balloons over North America. Delegate of all countries joined together for a General Assembly, which provided increased opportunities for collaboration with other countries and entailed making speeches in front of a bigger audience.

Kitty Solan (representing Pakistan) was commended in the Human Rights Committee and Melita Peel (representing Russia) received a Special Mention in the Health and Social Committee.
