National Finals here we come!

Hockey
We are so proud of our U16 hockey team who have qualified for the National Finals after an 8-2 win in the final round vs Bablake from Coventry. Lee Valley here we come!!
Our Year 8A and 8B hockey teams travelled to Upton on Wednesday to play Bishop Heber in friendly matches after school. Precise passing and good reading of the game secured wins as the 8A team won 9-3 and the 8B team won 12-2 in brilliant matches, displaying confidence, teamwork and talented individual stickwork skills.

On Monday lunchtime our U18s played in the last 16 of the National Schools Tournament v Leeds Grammar and held them in an exciting match. The final score 0-3 to Leeds did not display the determination portrayed by our girls, battling to score and hitting the post, crossbar and shooting inches wide. Well done to Emma, Nikitha, Sophie W, Lauren, Tilly, Leah, Harriet, Hope, Anna, Maddie, Holly, Dakota, Nicole and Sophie on playing through the knockout rounds and achieving a place in the last 16 teams in the country!

Great team play by all four age groups v Altrincham Grammar with four impressive wins. The U15 team won 3-2, U14 team won 6-1, U13 won 11-0 and U12 won 6-1. All the girls kept possesssion well with lots of exciting goals and brilliant goalkeeping.

Our U11 hockey team took part in the Cheshire tournament last weekend winning all the games in the group stages to through to the semi-final in first place. A draw against King's Macclesfield in the semi meant the girls had to take penalty strokes to proceed through to the final. They coped extremely well with the pressure and took three fantastic penalties, winning 3-1. The top two teams automatically qualify for the North West Final in Leeds so the pressure was off for the final against King's. The girls played great hockey but a break through goal was scored by King's in the final 20 seconds of the game meaning they came away with silver medals and a place in the North West Final.

On Wednesday the U11 hockey team travelled to Rossall School to play in their invitational tournament. The girls had a tough group with AKS, St Mary's, Alderley Edge and Manchester High School for Girls but performed really well, finishing second in their group taking them through to the semi-final against King's. At the final whistle the score was still 0-0 which took us to 5 minutes extra time and a golden goal. Unfortunately, King's scored a great goal from a short corner which meant the girls were out of the competition. They all played fantastically well and should be really proud of themselves!

Cross Country
Last Saturday Megan in Year 8 took part in round 3 of the West Cheshire Cross Country Series of Races involving schools from Chester, Ellesmere Port, Halton and Liverpool. Running with determination to medal, Megan secured 2nd place, silver, in the Year 8 girls race. Well done Megan!

Netball
There was fantastic match play at Moreton Hall for three of our netball teams with an outstanding 30-8 win for the Year 7A team! Despite losses for the Year 9 and 7B team, the games were close with some great performances. Well done to everyone who played, great team spirit and learning all the time.

Swimming Gala
We shared our love of swimming at the Lower School during the annual Inter-House Swimming Gala. The opening events were a mixture of novelty races involving float stacking, retrieving sunken objects and dressing up. Next came the individual swimming events. The cheering escalated at this point and competitors were undoubtedly spurred on by their team mates. Finally the relay races consolidated a sense of team spirit. Slick handovers and purposeful finishes were evident throughout.
