35 Year 10 to Year 13 Spanish students spent six days in Salamanca (Spain) during half term.
They had a packed itinerary during their stay guaranteed to boost their knowledge of the Spanish language!
The days began with five hours of lessons in the morning in Colegio Delibes language school, which included grammar, conversation lessons, games, songs and even “chocolate con churros” tasting!
In the afternoons they enjoyed a wide range of activities such as salsa dancing lessons, cookery lessons (where they learnt to cook Spanish omelette and non-alcoholic sangria), a photo rally around the city, a tapas tour, and a graffiti finding competition in Barrio del Oeste, amongst others.
There were architectural tours of Salamanca University, the old and new cathedrals and Salamanca old town. Years 12 and 13 visited the Spanish Civil War museum and went to the cinema to see a Spanish comedy titled El Cuarto Pasajero, both of which they thoroughly enjoyed.
At the weekend they were extremely lucky to visit the beautiful walled city of Avila, which is the birthplace of renowned Saint Teresa de Jesús, the Roman city of Segovia, with its Roman Aqueduct, and the Alcazar Palace, which it is said Walt Disney took inspiration from for the castle in Disneyland.
All the students were immersed in the language and everyday life of Spain as they were hosted by Spanish families. They enjoyed free time as well around Salamanca’s Plaza Mayor and main streets and did some shopping, buying food, drinks and presents by themselves and putting their language knowledge into practice.
