Celebrating Earth Day

It was lovely to celebrate Earth Day by planting a beautiful cherry tree in memory of Margaret Farra, headmistress from 1973-1989.

Pupils also donated plants, shrubs and bulbs and planted them in the top garden and we are looking forward to these flourishing throughout the year so that everyone in the school can enjoy the benefits of nature.

This year we are taking part in The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) project. This is a unique tree-planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, which invites people from across the UK to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”. Everyone is being encouraged to play their part to enhance our environment by planting trees. With a focus on planting sustainably, the QGC will encourage planting of trees to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the Nation, which will benefit future generations.

Our efforts on Earth Day have also helped us to achieve the Woodland Trust Green Tree Schools Award (Bronze).

We now look forward to seeing the entries for the Woodland Words and Images competition to further celebrate nature.
