Awards and recognition at WiMUN

MUN conference at Withington Girls’ School, Manchester – 2 July 2023

This year has been a busy one for Queen’s’ MUNers – following our own conference, Q-MUN 2, in November, we attended three further ones, with WiMUN, the annual MUN conference at Withington Girls’ School, Manchester, bringing this year’s MUN season to a close.

Twelve students from Years 10-12 represented China and Cameroon in a diverse range of committees from the Human Rights Council and the Health Committee, to Environment and Science, and Disarmament and Security. Our delegations included some old hands, but also a sizeable contingent of the ‘next generation’ of Queen’s MUNers. Many of them had taken part in Q-MUN last autumn, either as delegates or as members of the Press Team, and this conference provided a good opportunity for them to take their MUN experience to the next level.

MUN can be both stimulating and rewarding as well as challenging – well done to all our delegates for entering the fray of diplomatic negotiation and debate! Zara Islip and Ruby Duller received a Special Mention in their Committees, Catrin Fagan and Elizabeth Edwards were Commended, and Melita Peel and Tia Secrette were awarded Highly Commended in their respective Committees.
