Tackling Key Issues at ShrewsMUN IX

Last weekend marked a well-loved fixture of MUN life at Queen’s as we traveled to Shrewsbury School to take part in their annual MUN conference, ShrewsMUN.

Eight delegates, representing China and South Africa, tackled controversial topics ranging from the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court to cryptocurrency regulation. Additionally, four of our experienced MUNers were invited to serve as guest chairs in various debates. It was inspiring to see everyone embrace the challenges of debate and push beyond their comfort zones, knowing that growth and personal development happen in these moments.

Both students and teachers enjoyed rekindling old friendships and forming new ones. Many of us have become long-standing collaborators in MUN across the North West, supporting each other in facilitating all that MUN has to offer. Students relish the opportunity to engage with peers from different schools who share their passion for geopolitics, diplomacy, and public speaking. The event struck a perfect balance between healthy competition for awards and fostering an inclusive environment where everyone could thrive.

In this spirit, Olivia in Year 12 received a Special Mention in the Security Council, and Serena in Year 12, was Commended in the Justice Council.
