Inspiring future pathways
The department encourages pupils to make informed judgements and effective decisions about their career and life choices. Girls learn to:
• Identify career needs and priorities
• Make plans and decisions about future learning and work
• Take action to improve opportunities
The emphasis is on meeting the needs of the individual. However, there is a structured Careers Programme delivered from Years 7-13. Girls will be helped in this process through modules within the PSHE programme, introduction to and use of relevant computer software, and a wealth of resources in our Careers Library.
As they progress through the school, the focus turns more to the individual, and each girl will have regular interviews and guidance with our full time Head of Careers. We are able to offer the Morrisby Profile and can use the COA Centigrade Careers Questionnaire to help with decisions at key times.
The School works closely with other partners and is fortunate in having many willing contacts from the professions, businesses and higher education to assist in the programme. All Year 11 students are offered the opportunity to take part in our Work Experience Programme.
We attend the Oxbridge Regional Conference every year and the UCAS Higher Education Fair in Manchester. Almost all girls normally proceed to higher education, obtaining places on competitive courses at top universities, but whatever a girl’s choice for her future career might be, she will receive personal and dedicated help and advice.
