Future Investors: Queen’s Take on the GAIN Investment Challenge

There has been an overwhelming response from Sixth Form students this year, with a record three teams (14 girls) being entered into the prestigious Girls Schools Association’s Girls Are Investors (GAIN) competition.

The GAIN Investment Challenge is an annual stock market competition, which aims to provide young women with a unique insight into the world of investment management and key analysis skills.

Each participating team has been assigned a company (the stock) to research. Guided by industry experts and supported by investment mentor Agata Michalowicz, who is a Graduate Trainee Investment Manager at Rathbones Investment Management, students will advise on whether to buy, hold, or sell the stock as a potential investment opportunity.

“This is our third consecutive year of entering our girls into this competition. The teams are provided with the opportunity to engage with real investment professionals and learn from their experiences of working in the industry.

They will develop vital employability skills in research, data analysis, debating and advocating, analysing written and numerical information, and presentation skills. The process has also proved vital in university applications, and is a great addition to CVs and university applications.”
