Stranded and Unstoppable: Queen’s Pupils Take on Lord of the Flies

Our talented Senior School pupils recently took to the stage with a gripping and atmospheric production of Lord of the Flies.

Inspired by William Golding’s classic novel, the girls delivered a compelling reinterpretation of the story, exploring how a group of stranded children attempt to build their own society and how quickly order can unravel. Their performances captured the tension and shifting dynamics of the island, as themes of leadership, friendship, and morality came sharply into focus.

With striking staging, atmospheric lighting, and emotionally charged ensemble work, the production showcased the girls’ confidence and impressive dramatic ability. Equally impressive was the extensive talent behind the scenes – from set design and lighting to tech and photography – which brought every scene to life with precision and flair. The production also highlighted the girls’ collaboration and creativity, demonstrating a professional standard of theatre that belied their years.

It was a thought-provoking evening that left the audience reflecting on the fine line between civilisation and chaos, and the complex nature of human behaviour when stripped of societal rules.

A huge well done to everyone involved – a powerful achievement from cast and crew alike. Special thanks to Gwen in Year 9 for capturing such beautiful images that perfectly convey the intensity and atmosphere of the show.
