Prize Giving 2025: A Celebration of Excellence at Queen’s

The Queen’s School community came together in joy and pride for the annual Prize Giving ceremony, a highlight of the academic calendar celebrating the achievements, talents, and spirit of our girls.

This year’s guest speaker was alumna Vicki Connerty (Class of 1991), who delivered a moving and often humorous address, reflecting on her journey from Queen’s pupil to award-winning playwright and global creative leader. With warmth and candour, Vicki shared stories of resilience, bravery and adventure — from her first non-uniform day faux pas in a Girl Guide sweatshirt, to her international career, to her battle with cancer and rediscovery of writing.

Her message to pupils was clear and uplifting: be brave enough to try, value kindness above all, and never underestimate the friendships you make at Queen’s. As she put it, “the scary, unknown path is exactly where all the best and most joyful adventures are waiting to be discovered.”

Headmistress Mrs Joanne Keville also addressed the gathering, paying tribute to the ambition, creativity and courage that have defined 2024–25. She highlighted a year of outstanding achievements across academics, sport, music, debating, service, and leadership, saying: “This is a school where every girl is known, every talent is nurtured, and every voice is heard. When girls are at the centre of every decision, something remarkable happens: they flourish.”

The ceremony also featured an address from Chair of Governors, Mrs Kirsty Whiteley, who reflected on the vision and values guiding Queen’s forward. Before the presentation of prizes, Head Girl Daisy offered a thoughtful Vote of Thanks to guest speaker Vicki Connerty, expressing the school community’s gratitude for her inspirational words.
Vicki Connerty then presented prizes to pupils across the Senior School, from Subject and House Merit Awards to accolades for leadership, creativity, service and resilience. Each award shone a spotlight on dedication, teamwork and the individual spirit that defines Queen’s girls.

The day also included a more intimate Prize Giving session for the Class of 2025 leavers and Year 12 students, recognising their accomplishments and marking a proud moment of transition as they step forward into new opportunities.

Congratulations to all of this year’s prize winners. Your achievements embody the Queen’s values of independent thought, confident collaboration and global aspiration — and continue to inspire our whole community.
