Our Vision & Values

Put simply…to educate and empower more young women to lead and shape the world in which they live. Our vision is underpinned by values which make up the three pillars of The Queen’s School: Think Independently, Collaborate Confidently and Aspire Globally.

These values embody our commitment to creating a nurturing, ambitious, and forward-thinking environment where every girl can thrive academically and personally.

Think Independently

At Queen’s, girls develop into intellectually curious, brave, and creative lifelong learners. We encourage independent thought, critical thinking, and a love for learning that extends beyond the classroom.

Confident: Girls are encouraged to believe that there is no ‘one right answer’, to take risks and to put forward their own ideas. Throughout their time at Queen’s they learn to offer their ideas with confidence and not be put off by the fear of getting it wrong.

Empowered: Inspirational staff are empowered to develop each girl beyond her own expectations. We hone her ability to contribute as a can-do problem solver and creative thinker, increasingly valuable skills in this fast-changing world.

Collaborate Confidently

At Queen’s, girls are nurtured to develop resilience, leadership skills, and the ability to work confidently with others. We foster a supportive environment where pupils learn the value of teamwork, effective communication, and mutual respect.

Nurturing resilient leaders and collaborators: Every girl is given the opportunity to lead, create and innovate.  She is valued for her contribution in each and every area of school life. Girls are encouraged to take responsibility and there are plentiful opportunities to work as part of a team and in a leadership role in both the Lower School, Senior School and Sixth Form. Pupil-led committees let girls take their first steps towards developing teamworking skills, empowering and moulding them as future citizens.

Inspired: More often than not girls have to step out of their comfort zone. It takes a special sort of environment to make this happen, a place where girls have been inspired to see the bigger picture, where intellectual risk is encouraged and celebrated not just by teachers, but by pupils too.

Aspire Globally

At Queen’s, girls are encouraged to be ambitious and to have the confidence to make a difference in the world. We inspire our pupils to set high goals, embrace global perspectives, and aspire to lead and innovate on a global scale.

Developing ambitious girls with a global outlook: Girls at Queen’s are encouraged to be aware of and understand their responsibilities in the wider world.  Awareness and compassion are developed through involvement in community and charity projects, both locally and worldwide.

Language-learning: We focus on language-learning and cultural understanding from Reception upwards, and Queen’s is the only independent school in the north of England to be officially recognised for its excellent work in promoting the study of Mandarin Chinese. We were awarded this coveted accolade of being designated a Confucius Classroom, which encourages an appreciation of both Chinese language and culture. Find out more about our CONFUCIUS CLASSROOM.

Experiences: Our girls are aware of the wealth of talent that has gone before them from mountaineers and TV presenters to artists, scientists and entrepreneurs. Alumnae regularly return for talks and visits and current pupils benefit enormously from their knowledge, experiences and expertise.

Our Virtual Boardroom equips each Senior School and Sixth Form girl with experiences of business projects with industry mentors and our Virtual Classroom links to classes across the world, offering a global perspective on learning. Our Environmental Warrior initiative offers opportunities to participate in charitable work and partnerships across the world.

Conscientious: Whether raising money for charity through a sponsored run, learning about plastic pollution during Beach School, or building a new school in Borneo or Tanzania, girls are instilled with a desire to want to make the world a better place.

At Queen’s we believe in:

  • A culture of excellence and ambition: We strive for the highest standards in all areas, fostering an environment where ambition and excellence are the norm.
  • A promotion of self-belief, respect and emotional intelligence: We nurture self-confidence, respect for others, and emotional intelligence, empowering our students to lead with compassion and integrity.
  • An understanding of the benefits to girls of single-sex education: We are committed to highlighting and leveraging the unique advantages that single-sex education offers, ensuring our students thrive academically and socially.
  • Strengthening Connections Between Lower and Senior School: We emphasise the seamless transition and strong bonds between our Lower School and Senior School, ensuring a cohesive and supportive educational journey.
  • Nurturing Talents and Offering Opportunities: We provide a wide range of opportunities to discover and develop each girl’s unique talents, encouraging them to explore their passions and reach their full potential.
  • Valuing Dynamic, Forward-Thinking Staff: We appreciate and support our innovative and dedicated staff, who inspire and challenge our pupils.
  • Raising Aspirations Locally, Regionally, and Nationally: We aim to elevate the aspirations of our pupils by promoting their achievements and contributions within the local community and beyond.
  • A Progressive Approach to Environmental Impact: We are committed to sustainability and teaching our pupils the importance of making environmentally conscious decisions, ensuring they become responsible global citizens.

What our parents say about us
When we first visited Queen’s, we were already aware of the academic excellence; the reason we fell in love with the school was the emphasis on happiness. Every class we visited seemed to be full of happy girls.
