The Queen’s School ‘Synergy Young Learner’s Programme’ was developed to provide unique learning experiences to children in local primary schools.

We provide Year 4 and 5 pupils access to practical, creative and academic subjects requiring specialist teaching and facilities, delivering unique learning experiences both within the curriculum and as part of an enrichment programme, with focus on science, languages, sport and music.

Our science sessions aim is to drive and foster a love of STEM subjects and increase aspiration to study these subjects at a higher level through widening curriculum and learning experiences.

We aim to widen pupils’ knowledge of the Mandarin language and Chinese culture through learning within The Queen’s Schools Confucius classroom. Taught by our Head of Mandarin and Hanban teacher, pupils gain an understanding of how Mandarin characters are used through creative activities such as calligraphy and art.

Weekly Lacrosse sessions are led by our PE teacher and former England International Charlotte Lytollis on and off site at local primary schools. Charlotte has experience as a competitor and is the lead coach of the England North Regional Academy.

‘….the quality of resources, expertise of staff and delivery of curriculum enables our pupils to receive specialist teaching and learning, an extensive range of resources and opportunities to experience learning which would be impossible in our state primary school. Pupils and staff have enthused about visiting Queen’s, the outstanding delivery of the subject and the enthusiasm of students and staff alike.

Humans as Animals and Development
Year 5 pupils from Upton Westlea Primary School explored the human life cycle with particular focus on foetus development. They studied models and researched embryo structure and gestation times to compare a range of animals. Pupils worked together using classification keys to define classification groups and taught their peers the key features.

Sound
Pupils from Chester Blue Coat C of E Primary, Highfield Primary, Norley C of E and Belgrave Primary observed how sound travels in waves using a range of oscilloscopes, speakers and even fire! They were able to see wave patterns produced by their own voices. Pupils then investigated sound waves and echoes using a slinky and created simple musical instruments to investigate how vibrations can be altered to change loudness and pitch.

Changing States
Pupils from Dee Point Primary School planned and investigated the effect of temperature on dissolving. They discussed variables and the importance of control variables to ensure a fair test. They also researched the properties of materials and reversible and irreversible reactions, making plastic from milk and vinegar and then inflating balloons with vinegar and sodium bicarbonate.

Digestive System
Pupils from Bowden Prep School explored model torsos to discover the parts of the digestive system. They worked in groups to link the structures and functions of the human gut. Pupils then demonstrated how a mixture foods are chewed, digested and then absorbed using a knife, food processor and a pair of tights!

Forces – Levers, Gears and Pulleys
Year 5 pupils from Mickle Trafford Primary School revised forces with a range of quizzes and activities. They then studied the use of levers, gears and pulleys in the world around us. They investigated how a lever could be manipulated to use to lift objects with a simple experiment using a ruler, pencil, weights and modelling clay. They also worked together to make their own pulley mechanisms to demonstrate how they can be used to lift heavy objects.

To be in a partnership with Queen's and develop the relationship with a local school of such quality and high reputation is extremely beneficial to us as a school.
