Lux Magazine

Welcome to the third edition of Lux magazine - a selection of academic work written by our Sixth Form girls covering a wide range of topics.

This diverse collection includes reports written as part of the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) – a key part of our Sixth Form curriculum. The EPQ is an independent piece of academic research work, in three parts, comprising a research diary or production log, an academic report or artefact, and a presentation.

The qualification is highly regarded by universities and involves the student identifying, designing, planning and completing an individual project and applying a range of organisational skills and strategies to meet agreed objectives. The reports printed in this magazine demonstrate the girls’ ability to obtain, critically select and use information from a range of sources; to analyse data, apply it relevantly and demonstrate understanding of any appropriate linkages, connections and complexities of the topic.

Below is the second edition of our Lux publication, which, as well as examples of EPQ essays, also includes an essay written for the Economist of the Year competition and two art essays by previous Year 13 students, one of whom has since gone on to study at The Courtauld Institute of Art. Insightful, interesting and thought-provoking - we hope you enjoy reading these essays - just a handful of examples of the phenomenal work produced by girls at The Queen’s School.
