Leadership
Teachers at Queen’s have the privilege of honing in on the unique strengths and aspirations of each pupil. Unlike co-educational settings, where discussion can sometimes be monopolised by boys, our girls have the freedom to express themselves fully and explore their potential. This personalised attention in our supportive environment means our girls are free to explore their interests, express themselves, and take on leadership roles without the pressures often associated with mixed-sex classrooms. Moreover, without the influence of stereotypes, they can truly unleash their potential and build the self-assurance needed to thrive in any field they choose.
Queen’s girls are eager to put themselves forward for leadership roles from an early age and have lots of opportunities to make their voices heard. We value the importance and benefits of listening to and empowering our pupils; giving them responsibility nurtures collaboration, leadership, and negotiation, which is why it is central to our philosophy. They may be a House Captain, Junior Safety Officer, Student Council Member or Queen Bee at the Lower School or an Academic Mentor, School Parliament Representative, Wellbeing and Diversity Champion, or part of The Head Girls’ Team at the Senior School. Our pupils have a say on what they eat, the charities they work with, how to invest and develop the School, and much, much more. We use pupil voice to engage the girls we work with, creating a culture where pupils know that their opinions are sought after, listened to, and acted upon, contributing to the development of School.
Every week at least one of our former pupils lets us know of something fantastic she is doing with her leadership skills – whether that is campaigning for improved disabled access in her college, setting up a charity in Africa or managing large projects at work. Leading people is an enormously beneficial opportunity to have at school and our girls are thankful for the many opportunities given to them.
