The Queen’s Young Voices choir gave an enchanting performance at the semi-finals of The Songs of Praise Junior Choir of the Year on Saturday.
The choir, led by music teacher Margaret Corlett, travelled to Sheffield City Hall where they joined five other school choirs from across the country who had been selected from a CD recorded entry back in November.
The girls had worked very hard to learn a new arrangement of a beautiful hymn, ‘Take this moment’, by John Bell.
As they arrived in Sheffield, the excited group was met by the film crew and escorted to the huge ballroom in the City Hall which was set out as the holding area for all six choirs. After a vocal warm-up the real challenges of the day began with sound and camera checks on the stage, then a practice getting all six choirs into position for the start and end of the programme, with the recording session itself starting in the afternoon. Many parents and friends travelled to support all the choirs in the large auditorium with banners and much cheering.
The girls also got to meet and talk with former child choral star turned Songs of Praise TV presenter Aled Jones.
Their performance can be seen on the popular Sunday night programme on April 3rd.
