Year 5 pupils have been investigating the effect of mould spores on food with a ‘mouldy food’ experiment as part of their science work on microorganisms and fungus.

The girls looked at how mould is used in some food, such as Stilton. They also investigated another microorganism yeast, using it to make Herman the German - the cake that keeps on giving! The sourdough mix needs to be fed for 9 days, at which point the mixture is split up and shared with friends who then start the process again. On the 10th day the cake is baked. One of the pictures shows Scarlett sharing her mixture with Annie, Emily and Millie.
