You may be aware that there will be new travel restrictions in place over the forthcoming May race festival, on Wednesday 9th to Friday 11th May, as well as increased levels of traffic.

Enhanced security measures are being put in place by Chester Racecourse, the council and the police to ensure everyone’s safety during this event.

For each of Wednesday 9th, Thursday 10th and Friday 11th May, both City Walls Road and Stanley Street will be closed at the Lower Watergate Street end from 9.30am to 7.00pm. There will be immoveable barriers, and no traffic will be able to cross those junctions in either direction. This means that from 9.30am onwards, access to Queen’s will only be available from the St Martin’s Way end of City Walls Road.

Lessons in senior school will finish at 3.30pm on each of these days so that we can oversee pick up. The afterschool club at senior school will be available until 6pm, but please bear in mind that traffic will be heavier and it may be prudent to leave a little earlier to pick up your daughter.

In order to reduce the likely congestion around school, we have implemented the following changes:

Coach Travel (Merediths and Alpine):
For lower school pupils who normally travel to senior school either to join a coach or to walk home – these pupils will be transported by school minibus to the senior school and then escorted to the temporary designated coach stop on St Martin’s Way and onto their coaches for their normal homeward journey.

For senior school pupils who normally travel home by coach – these pupils will be escorted on foot by staff to the temporary designated coach stop on St Martin’s Way, and onto their coaches for their normal homeward journey.

Morning drop-offs will be unaffected. These changes only apply to the homeward journeys.

Minibus travel (Wirral and Warrington):
Two of the school minibuses will collect all senior school pupils who travel on the school minibuses and transport them to lower school. The minibuses will then collect the lower school pupils and all four minibuses will continue on their normal homeward journeys. Please be aware that, due to increased traffic in Chester, your daughters may arrive back at their drop-off points slightly later than normal.

Morning drop-offs will be unaffected. These changes only apply to the homeward journeys.

Car travel:
All cars will need to enter and leave City Walls Road via the St Martin’s Way junction, it is vitally important that we are able to maintain two directions of travel along the full length of City Walls Road. This will only be possible if parents do not stop to wait for their daughters anywhere along City Walls Road. There will be a number of staff on duty to direct traffic, and the intention is to have a single flow of traffic down City Walls Road, turning left up the lane that runs through the school, then right onto Stanley Street, right into Stanley Place, and right back onto City Walls Road and back to St Martin’s Way. This route, whilst not the usual direction of traffic through the school, will mean that vehicles don’t need to turn across the opposite direction of traffic, and will hopefully minimise congestion. Your cooperation with this matter is much appreciated.

Please also continue to be considerate of our neighbours, and do not use Sens Close or The Yonne as alternative collection points. These roads are residential and should not be used as collection points for our pupils.

We hope that these measures will minimise any traffic delays and will allow everyone to leave the area safely and quickly and would like to thank you in advance for your assistance.
