We were very lucky to welcome The High Sheriff of Merseyside and his wife to our Lower School Assembly recently.
Mr Stephen Burrows DL spoke to the girls about his role in supporting Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth on official engagements throughout the region.
The girls were fascinated to find out why he wore a sword and spurs on his boots, which turns out links him to a tradition that dates back 1,000 years.
He spoke with pride of his duties now in supporting the police, fire and rescue service, prison service and the High Court Judges to uphold the peace and law and order in our community. When asked what his favourite part of the job was, he responded warmly that it was most definitely, ‘the privilege of meeting so many amazing individuals, who do a fantastic job in our area, often voluntarily’. He also reminded us to be proud of the uniforms we wear, as they tell the world who we are and the values we believe in.
He finished off his visit by presenting the newly appointed Lower School Subject Ambassadors with their badges ahead of their inaugural lunch meeting with the SMT. A very special honour and one to be remembered for all the girls.
