A review from Asha Paymaster

Planning for our Summer fiesta began three months ago under grey skies. We wanted to commemorate Queen’s 140th anniversary and give Mrs Cookson an ‘au revoir’ that she wouldn’t forget!

Our usual tasks - booking the bouncy slide and the ice cream van - were all in hand: but what about the weather? As I walked out early on Sunday’s midsummer morning, the sun was already beating down upon the Lower School grounds. Suddenly I wasn’t alone as teams of mums, dads and children arrived to set up the stalls. With the smell of the lit BBQ warning us that the doors were about to open, we scurried to our places for a final check.

Mrs Cookson and our Headmistress in Waiting Miss Carmody greeted our guests, giving out programmes featuring Zara Green in Reception’s charming design on the cover. Soon everywhere was buzzing with activity. The usual stampede to the Bag a Bag stall: for the first time ever this stall was a sell out! At 1pm we welcomed footy fans into the Pumpkin House to watch England v Panama. By half time the score was 5-0 - we like to think our own Queen’s squad played a major part!

The afternoon rushed past; the previous week our award winning Queen’s Young Voices choir led by Mrs Corlett had performed for the Queen - on Sunday they sang for Queen’s!

A last minute dash to buy a Queen’s Hamper raffle ticket before the draw took place. Mrs Cookson on the mic drew out 21 winners. Congratulations to our families who went home with a super hamper packed full of treasures.

Tina from the Senior School kitchen team had whipped up a Queen’s birthday chocolate ganache cake for our Guess the Weight of the Cake competition. Two parents - Mrs Bentham Smith and Mr Bennett - correctly guessed 3.85kg, and gamely opted to share the confection between them!

A heartfelt thank you and a hearty three cheers for Mrs Cookson closed the afternoon.

QSPA would like to thank everyone who joined us at the Garden Party: we hope that you all enjoyed it as much as we did! We’re very grateful to girls and parents for the fantastic donations of Bag a Bags and goodies for our hampers.

Our Lower School Class Parent Representatives are a vital link - thanks for working with us to make it an afternoon to remember.
