Two members of Year 12 and five members of Year 13 took part in the Mathematical Olympiad for Girls.
This is the second year of this competition. High scoring pupils will be invited to participate in the British Mathematical Olympiad and the UKMT Senior Mentoring Scheme.
The girls were presented with five questions and asked to complete as many as possible in 2 ½ hours. They were encouraged to concentrate on finding a full solution to a few problems rather than finishing all five.
Candidates needed to find an overall strategy to solve a problem, explain why it works then carry it out to produce an answer or prove the required result. This approach is very different to that which they are used to at GCSE and A -level where credit is given for carrying out techniques.
We are extremely proud of their approach and enthusiasm!
