Year 12 geography students undertook a field trip to north wales to put the theory they had learnt in class into practice as well as develop fieldwork techniques for their independent investigation.
The day started off at Llandudno where they completed a beach profile survey, sediment analysis and a longshore drift experiment. They also completed a field sketch. At this site they were lucky enough to see the local wildlife as a seal became interested in what they were doing with oranges in the sea!
The afternoon was spent at Colwyn Bay where they completed bi polar surveys of the sea defences and evaluated the effectiveness of the hard and soft engineering methods used.
The geography department also organised an internal competition to take a photograph of a physical landscape and write 250 words to describe and explain that landscape.
Congratulations to the KS3 winner Ella Reynolds in Year 9 and Kate Holden in Year 11 who won from KS4.
Both girls have been awarded 100 house points each and have been entered into the national Geographical Association Competition so we wish them the best of luck!!
