Year 13 biologists spent a productive day at Preston Montford Field Studies Centre near Shrewsbury last week.

Girls were introduced to practical ecology techniques and carried out studies into hydroseral succession and the effect of grazing on plant distribution to support their A-level studies.

The A-level students were joined by our Year 10 dual award biologists who spent the day sampling different ponds and learning about the adaptations of aquatic invertebrates for gas exchange in areas of high and low oxygen concentration.

The weather was beautiful and they enjoyed watching a myriad of dragonflies as well as discovering just how many mosquito larvae can inhabit one small pond.
