On Tuesday two members of the debating team from Year 12, Cat and Aoife, took part in the first round of the English Speaking Union's School MACE debate.

They were up against one of two King's School teams in a debate considering the motion, this House would only imprison violent offenders and would give non-violent offenders non-custodial sentences. It was a hard-fought debate with arguments on both sides of high quality, considering the implications of this difficult proposition.

In the end, Queen's won the debate 80 points to 72. They will be joined in round 2 by Abbey Gate College who won their debate, also against King's. It was an interesting and informative evening for all those involved.

We are now looking forward to round 2!
