Cyber students given insight into how to defend attacks

Our GCSE and A-level computer scientists visited Bank of America Merrill Lynch at their Chester headquarters.

The bank's team of cyber security professionals help to protect the global business from a wide range of cyber threats, and the lead practitioners from the key departments gave their time to explain their roles and give our girls a fascinating insight into the methods that the organisation employs in order to defend attacks.

The girls learnt about the different aspects of security and how social engineering is used by 'attackers' to gain valuable information.

They were given examples of phishing emails and fake websites to see if they could detect anomalies. All of the information is relevant to their course and the value of being able to put this content into context cannot be underestimated.
