Chinese New Year celebrations have been in full swing this week as pupils in both the Lower and Senior school took part in activities to mark 2016 being the Year of the Monkey.

Mandarin workshops proved to be a huge success at the Lower School, with girls from all years learning all about new year customs and traditions. The groups were guided through how to dance with Chinese fans and parasols, before trying their hand at the famous Dragon Dance - a bit trickier than you might think! Each session was brought to a calm finale with some relaxing tai chi.

The Lower School greatly enjoyed a special assembly led by Hanban teacher Miss Rao. They heard a stunning performance from Year 3 girls and some singing from Reception pupils. Year 9 pupils also performed a puppet show to illustrate the Chinese zodiac story of the Jade Emperor choosing which 12 animals would represent each year To hear the girls singing, please visit here.

Members of our weekly Mandarin After School Club also grabbed the opportunity to take part in the celebrations with their very own Dragon Dance, Year 8 enjoyed exploring Chinese cuisine by making some delicious dumplings and Year 11 staged a Chinese modern dance routine at the Senior School.
