Our Year 5 girls have raised almost £1500 for a number of charities as a result of a challenge they were set back in June.

The Fiver Challenge is supported by Virgin Money and was an interactive, fun way of introducing financial literacy, resilience and teamwork in learning for primary school pupils.

The girls had one month to build mini-businesses starting with only a £5 investment and had to create a product or service they could then sell or deliver at a profit, whilst engaging with their local community.

After dividing into teams and choosing individual charities to support, they embraced the challenge by using all of their entrepreneurial skills to come up with some creative business ideas.

The total raised by the girls was £1306.19 and with an extra donation of £165 for the RSPCA from Tattenhall Dairy Products Ltd, the grand total raised is £1471.19.

Head of Lower School Rachel Cookson said: “We are all so unbelievably proud of what the girls have achieved through this fantastic initiative and watch them grow and develop employability skills including confidence, team work, resilience, financial literacy, organisation, communication, problem solving and independence.

“We hope that this has been both an enjoyable, challenging and memorable experience which will support the girls in years to come.”

Business ventures include dynamic duo Emily Duffy and Mia Clarke who struck a deal with the Ice Cream Farm in Tattenhall to sell a tropical sorbet at the popular visitor attraction. Their business meeting was a result of a great letter written by Mia to the farm seeking an appointment to pitch their idea.

Other successes included the team 'Crystal Clear' which made safety pin necklaces and decided to export them and sell them overseas in Singapore. They proved extremely popular and all necklaces sold out very quickly.

The chosen charities and total amounts raised were:
Cancer Research UK - £246.68
Claire House Children’s Hospice - £235
Macmillan Cancer Support - £149.76
The Guide Dogs for the Blind - £186.26
The Queen’s School - £149.90
BBC Children in Need Appeal - £112.17
The Rainforest UK - £116.03
RSPCA - £110.39 plus an extra donation of £165 from Tattenhall Dairy Products Ltd
