We had a fantastic time today at the Year 5 Activities Day where girls from primary schools across the region sampled a Queen's School education for the day!

Through a range of activities, they discovered that the stretch and challenge of Senior School is actually pretty good fun too!

The girls have been exploring introductory methods, techniques and tools for printmaking.  The Queen's School offers exceptional printmaking facilities       enabling students to work with both relief and intaglio techniques.

Computing is a very popular subject for girls here at Queen’s and our teams do well in regional and even national competitions. Today, the girls have been programming a Micro:Bit microprocessor to create a step-o-meter; their version of a proto-FitBit.

Unleash your inner Drama Queen!  The Drama Department has been working with the girls on Melodrama, a Victorian genre which led to the birth of our modern-day pantomime. They have explored exaggerated characters, performances and speech in order to create their own mini-play about heroes, heroines and villains.

Food and

Food and Nutrition is vital to our well-being and survival and today the girls have also been exploring the more creative and artistic elements of this subject.  They have baked and decorated a floral medley of cupcakes and allowed their imagination to run wild.

The girls have been playing sports today, promoting body-confidence and raising their heart rates.  They have also been introduced to some techniques for lacrosse - a very popular sport here at Queen's. We regularly win through to the national finals for this exciting team game and we hope the girls enjoyed getting to grips with this new sport.

The sciences are very popular here at Queen's with biology, chemistry and physics all taught separately from Year 7. More than half of our students choose to study one or more of the sciences at A-level. Today, the girls have been extracting DNA from a Kiwi fruit as well as making a DNA model from jelly babies!

Ni Hao! Mandarin Chinese is a particular strength here at Queen’s, and every student has the opportunity to study it in Year 7.  The girls have enjoyed an introduction to the Chinese language and have learned a few calligraphy techniques as they created their own panda fans and drew Chinese characters with an authentic brush.

The girls have collaborated and cooperated together today in order to record their own song. Music is an integral part of life here at Queen’s, with many opportunities for soloists and group performance. In Year 7 the girls are able to try out new instruments and are encouraged to join the various choirs and other musical groups that practice and perform in school.
