Exploring, Learning and Growing

Outdoor education at Queen’s is exemplified by our Beach School and Forest School provision which offers unique and enriching learning experiences.

These programmes provide our pupils with the freedom and space to explore and engage with their environment, thereby fostering a deep connection with the natural world. Sensory engagement through hands-on activities allows our children to learn experientially, enhancing their problem-solving skills and promoting a lifelong appreciation for nature.

Participating in outdoor education significantly boosts our children’s mental wellbeing. The natural settings of Beach and Forest Schools offer a calming atmosphere which improves focus and attention. This immersive environment helps to reduce cognitive overload, leading to increased confidence and self-esteem among our pupils. As they navigate various challenges, our children develop a sense of independence and resilience, preparing them to adapt to different situations throughout their lives.

Collaboration is a key component of outdoor education. The children work together to solve problems and complete tasks, learning to communicate effectively and build strong social skills. These collaborative efforts not only improve their ability to work in teams but also develop a sense of community and shared responsibility. Through these experiences, our pupils gain a deeper understanding of their roles within a group and the importance of cooperation.

Ultimately, outdoor education nurtures a lifelong connection with the natural world. By engaging with nature from a young age, pupils at The Queen’s School learn to value and protect their environment. This early exposure instils a sense of stewardship, encouraging the girls to care for the planet for future generations. The lessons learned through outdoor education at Queen’s extend beyond the classroom, shaping responsible and environmentally conscious individuals.
