It is with great sadness that we say farewell to a truly remarkable lady, Audrey Warburton, whose unwavering dedication and warmth touched the hearts of so many at The Queen’s School. Audrey was not just a member of our staff; she was a cornerstone of our community, a cherished friend, and an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
For an extraordinary 49 years, Audrey served The Queen’s School with unparalleled commitment. From the moment she joined in 1972, she became a steadfast presence, working alongside six Headmistresses and navigating the ever-changing tides of school life with resilience and grace. She met challenges head-on, remaining true to her values and was never afraid to stand her ground, as she famously did during her home-visit interview, ensuring she was always in control of her own story.
Audrey’s heart was firmly rooted in the science building, where she worked tirelessly to maintain an environment that allowed generations of girls to learn, discover, and thrive. There was no corner left untouched by her careful hands and no task left unfinished under her watchful eye. Her dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic ensured that every day, the school gleamed just that little bit brighter.
Her love for Queen’s was something she passed on, quite literally, to the next generations. Eleven years to the month after Audrey joined the school, her daughter Jackie followed in her footsteps in 1984 and continues to be an integral member of the Queen’s family today. The family’s devotion to Queen’s spanned yet another generation, as Jackie’s daughter also became part of the school community. Incredibly, across three generations, the family dedicated over 90 years to Queen’s (and counting) —an extraordinary legacy of loyalty and service.
Beyond her incredible service, Audrey was known for her candour, her kindness, and the sense of community she fostered through her work. She was more than a colleague; she was a friend, a mentor, and a cherished part of Queen’s. Her legacy will live on in the laughter, learning, and life that continue to fill the halls she so lovingly cared for.
As we bid her farewell, we do so with immense gratitude for all that she gave to our school. Our thoughts are with her family and friends, who will undoubtedly feel the depth of this loss. May she rest in peace, knowing she made an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
Thank you, Audrey, for everything. You will be dearly missed.
