It was lovely to welcome pupils, parents, alumni and staff to Chester Cathedral for this year’s Commemoration Service, a highlight of the school calendar. Attendees were treated to beautiful performances by the Chamber Choir, Queen’s Young Voices, and Lotus, this year’s winner of the Festival of Music — all of which were warmly received by the audience.
The service was made even more special by the return of alumna Colonel Caroline S. J. Whittle MRCVS VR, who served as the keynote speaker. A former Queen’s pupil who graduated in 1989, Colonel Whittle is now the Deputy Commander (Reserves) at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Her diverse career spans veterinary practice, global animal welfare, and military leadership, with significant contributions to the Royal Household and working animals across Africa and the Middle East. During her address, Colonel Whittle shared how her passion for service, leadership, and education has shaped her remarkable journey, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
The service also featured heartfelt speeches from other esteemed members of the Queen’s community. Mrs Gill Cox, Head of Chemistry, who has been a pillar of the school since joining in 2017, was recognized for her exceptional contributions to science education. Her innovative teaching methods and genuine care for her students have made her an inspirational figure at Queen’s. As she looks ahead to retirement in 2026, the school expressed its deep gratitude for her incredible impact.
Lastly, Mr and Mrs Byrne, parents of Head Girl Alexa and alumnae Ava and Lola, reflected on over a decade of family connections with Queen’s. Their moving tribute celebrated the values that unite the Queen’s community and the lasting relationships formed within the School. In her speech, Mrs Byrne said:
We are immensely grateful to all our speakers for reminding us of the strength of our shared values and the true essence of what it means to be part of the Queen’s community.
