Remotely connecting and collaborating

Unprecedented isn’t a frequently used word in our vocabulary, but we have certainly relied on it a lot in the last two weeks. As a country, we prepare to retreat and isolate, but as educators we prepare to remotely connect and collaborate.

Teaching is an intensely relationship driven occupation, and there is little doubt an imminent loss of human connection is being sorely felt by staff, children and parents alike; we are venturing into new territory, and the challenge is daunting, but trivial compared to the chilling landscape our NHS staff are facing. We disengage to win an invisible war, but ironically, it is our human capacity to be creative in finding new and positive ways to engage, that will ensure we remain firmly connected and resilient in this time of crisis.

Our thoughts and prayers go to all our NHS families and Key Workers who are on the frontline, and we thank them for all they are doing. To our entire Queen’s community, keep safe, keep positive and keep learning, until we meet again.

With my very best wishes
Iona Carmody
