QSPA Golf Day - Friday 17 June 2022 at Upton-by-Chester Golf Club

QSPA Golf Day - Friday 17 June 2022 at Upton-by-Chester Golf Club

Thirty-two players enjoyed a golf course in great condition and glorious weather for this year’s QSPA Golf Day. It was nice to see so many familiar faces from across both the Senior and Lower Schools with three players taking part for the first time, as well as to welcome back parents of alumnae. It was a hugely enjoyable day and even if one’s golf was not up to scratch, there was always the prospect of a couple of beers and some food afterwards at the Club to enjoy!

We welcomed Dennis Taylor, the world professional snooker champion from 1985, to our golf day. It was fantastic to have a sporting superstar in our midst and our grateful thanks go to Dennis for helping to present the prizes with Mrs WW.

We were very pleased to announce a new winner of The Shaun Mason Trophy with a runaway score of 48 points by Ravish Shetty at his first playing of the competition. Ravish has only been playing golf for just over a year and his excellent debut performance should be an inspiration to budding golfers in the Queen’s community. Chris Dale came second with a very strong performance of 38 points, followed in third place by Robin Bennett with 35 points – well done all!

The women’s Longest Drive was won by Jane McBurney and the men’s by Cameron Taylor. Paul Burgess was successful with Nearest The Pin at the 4th hole, with an excellent shot to approximately 2.5m.

Thanks to everyone for supporting this event, which is back to full strength after two rather curtailed years. Please spread the word and let’s see if we can have more players next year, from both the parent body and staff. Andrew Godley, a current year 5 parent and member of Upton-by-Chester Golf Club, will be taking over the organisation of the QSPA Golf Day from next year – please look out for correspondence and do come and join in this fun and sociable event!  I have loved my involvement with the Golf Day as participant and organiser over the last 12 years – here’s to the event continuing to go from strength to strength!
