At Queen's we offer a free after school Mandarin Club for Year 5 & 6 children attending primary school in the local area and a similar club for Year 2 children.

  • The Junior (Years 5/6) Mandarin Club runs on a Monday 4-5pm at the Senior School.
  • The Infant Mini-Mandarin Club (Year 2) runs on a Thursday 4pm-4.45pm at the Lower School.

Pupils have a snack and a drink before they start their activities and follow an exciting programme of language and cultural activities throughout the year, all geared to their specific age group.

Highlights have included learning the Mandarin for fruit and vegetables and celebrating the dragon boat festival, the Autumn festival and Chinese New Year.

We tailor our activities depending on the experience of the pupils and the wishes of the teachers.

If you are interested in you son or daughter attending either of the Mandarin Club please email Admissions. Both clubs are full for this academic year but we will take names for a waiting list in case spaces become available.

We also run a variety of one-off workshops and longer-term Chinese culture and language teaching in a variety of primary schools in the local area and also tour with our dragon to celebrate Chinese New Year.  He has spent many hours travelling the roads of the North West!

If you wish to find out more information about any of our outreach, please contact our Head of Languages, Lynnette Ketchell  or our Confucius Classroom Manager Lucy Whittam.
