During the October half-term, a group of GCSE and A-level Spanish students enjoyed a memorable week in the beautiful city of Salamanca, Spain’s “Golden City,” renowned for its history, architecture, and vibrant student life. The trip, organised by our Spanish Department, offered the perfect blend of language learning and cultural immersion, as the students were hosted by Spanish families.
Each morning, students attended intensive Spanish lessons at Colegio Delibes, a highly regarded language school that specialises in teaching Spanish to international students. The engaging and interactive classes, delivered entirely in Spanish, provided an excellent opportunity to build confidence in speaking and listening, while reinforcing grammar and vocabulary through real-life communication.
Afternoons were spent exploring Salamanca’s rich cultural heritage. Highlights included visits to the University of Salamanca — one of the oldest universities in Europe — and the magnificent Cathedral, where students marvelled at its intricate façades and panoramic views from the towers.
Cultural experiences added a lively dimension to the trip. Students took part in salsa dancing lessons, tried a variety of tapas, and indulged in Spain’s famous chocolate con churros — a delicious reward after busy days of learning and sightseeing. The group also enjoyed a brief visit to the nearby walled city of Ávila, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which offered a fascinating insight into Spain’s medieval past.
The Salamanca trip was a wonderful opportunity for students to put their Spanish into practice and to experience the language and culture in an authentic setting. Everyone returned home with improved language skills and lasting memories.
¡Una experiencia inolvidable!
